Chateau de Chambord, Loire Valley
Take a trip through French renaissance architecture and explore the river landscapes and historic chateaux of the Loire Valley. One of the most famous castles in the region, Chambord was commissioned by King Francis I and built between 1519 and 1547. Flew into Nantes from Geneva and rented a car for several days stopping not only for the chateaux but also to see where Leonardo da Vinci made his home in the last few years of his life (Amboise). We even happened upon a medieval castle (Chinon) from the days of Joan d’Arc 1429.
