Fés


The King of Morocco was in residence today so the palace doors were closed to the public. Headed out to see the renowned artisans of the region and the souks in the narrow alleyways of the old medina, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Ancient City of Volubilis

Dating to 300 BC, the ancient capital of the kingdom of Mauritania in the far reaches of the Roman Empire, was discovered between Meknes and Fes. The town's prosperity was derived principally from olive growing and had many fine houses with large mosaic floors still in remarkable condition.

Huge 17th c granary built by the ruthless monarch Moulay Ismail who ruled Morocco for nearly 60 years and sought to rival Versailles with his palace and substantial grounds.
