Top of Zaros to Rouvas Gorge, Idi Mountains

We got dropped off at nearly the top of the mountain for the 6km walk down nearly 2000 ft through the Rouvas Gorge. Water is bottled here from the natural springs - but bring your own water!

Loutro to Aradena Gorge and Marmara Beach

The white buildings of Loutro are beautifully set next to the blue sea. The fishing village can only reached by boat or feet. The next day, we took the steep trail behind the village to get into the rocky and scenic gorge inland and popped out again at the beautiful Marmara Beach in the afternoon.

Coastal walk from Agia Roumeli to Marmara Beach

Beautiful 15 km walk along the rocky and remote southern coast of Crete. Had a late lunch at Taverna Dialeskari and a beach swim in the clear blue waters of Marmara Beach. Then took the short ferry to Loutro for the night.

Samaria Gorge, Crete

A popular yet challenging descent in Crete, is the Samaria Gorge hike, 16km long and part of the National Park of Greece in Western Crete. In the White Mountains, the gorge starts at an altitude of 1,250 m at the northern entrance, and ends at the shores of the Libyan Sea in the small village of Agia Roumeli. We arrived just before the park officially opened, and due to weather, the upper sections were not safe. So we took a boat to Agia Roumeli and walked up into the gorge past the Iron Gates, its most narrow section with heights reaching almost 1000 ft.

Sunset walk around Acropolis, Athens

After all the tourist buses have departed, walk around the Acropolis and be transported back thousands of years. Time your walk for sunset on the rocks west of the Acropolis, and you'll find a group of like-minded travelers also connecting with the sunset. Get back before it turns dark (for safety.)
